Unable To Restore iPhone – What Can You Do If You Are Unable To Restore iPhone
If you are unable to restore iPhone, there are a few things you can do which this article will show you in detail. There can many reasons why people are unable to restore iPhone. The solutions provided here should work for majority of users. But before that, let’s take a look at what restoring iPhone does.
In order to restore an iPhone, you need to have a backup of it before hand. Backup occurs every time you:
- sync your iPhone with iTunes
- Update your iTunes
- Restore your iPhone ( iTunes will prompt for a backup before restore process begins.)
Restoring an iPhone restores mail settings, text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, certain network settings, contacts, calendars, notes, images in the Camera Roll as well as applications bought from iTunes. Media files like video, audio and photo are not included. If you are unable to restore iPhone, you can do 2 things, force a restore in recovery mode (try this first) or removing iTunes complete and reinstalling it.
How to force iPhone to restore in recovery mode if you are unable to restore iPhone using the standard restore mode?
- Make sure you are using iTunes 7.5 or later. Best is to download the latest version of iTunes. Launch iTunes.
- Ensure that iPhone is disconnected from your PC or laptop and power it off by holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears and slide the slider. Wait for it to be turned off.
- This step is important. Press and hold the Home button while you reconnect iPhone to your PC or laptop using the USB cable. Keep the home button depressed until you see a pop up in iTunes saying that iPhone is in recovery mode. You can release the button at this moment.
- Click ok and follow the rest of the instructions. Please note that NO backup of iPhone will be done at this moment as in the case of normal restore. iTunes will then proceed to restore iPhone using your previous backups.
If you are still unable to restore iPhone, remove iTunes by doing this:
If you are a Mac user, delete the following files:
- /System/Library/AppleMobileDevice.kext
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework
- /Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
After that, restart your Mac and install the latest version of iTunes. Repeat the normal restore again.
For Windows users, uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes from your system, restart the computer and re-install the latest version of iTunes and try to restore again.
If after doing all these, you are still unable to restore iPhone, you can try creating a new account and login in using the new account and try a restore. I personally have not tried this.

Last night, I tried to install the new 3.0 software. I plugged my iPhone into my computer, itunes immediately noted that new software was available and asked me if I wanted to install it. I selected "yes". From there, the system froze. I left it connected overnight and no progress had been made. This morning, I unplugged it and after conducting some research, I did a reset and am am trying to restore it. It's been 4 hours and the iphone is still trying to restore, the itunes message still states "Restoring iPhone Software". I have a 3G that was purchased on November 1, 2008. Any ideas as to what I should do? I'm from Seattle, but am in London for a month for work.

It should definitely not take that long...mine takes less than an hour (winxp, latest itunes)....maybe reinstall itunes or something. I had a similar thing with the restore to backup, i would restore it to my recent backup, it would go through the whole process, then after it restarts itll ask you again. At that point choose setup as new iphone and it should be good (ie still restored to recent backup)....at least it was for me ;)
i brought an iphone from america i now live back in the uk every time i update or restore my iphone it says the sim card is not supported by this carrier and i have to take it to a specialist which costs me £45 thats $70 is there any way around this

Updated iTunes to 8.2. then my iPhone 3g crashed and is now Stuck on a NPEBEA! screen mode after I tried to upgrade to 3.0. I bet it still under firmware 2.2.1… I tried to restore to no avail. It flashes then gets stuck on the silver apple logo once the download bar comes on. Because iTunes gets stuck on error message, “iPhone” could not be restored. Unknown error occurred(9). Called Apple and three techs couldn’t help. But of course I didn’t mentioned the NPEBEA! screen, cause they would know phone was previously JB. I still got warranty but how can I take it back if once you start the phone the pineapple logo comes on then the cartoon with NPEBEA? That would void my warranty. Is there a way to recover my phone or a way to eliminate the pineapple and NPEBEA cartoon? I tried everything on the apple support page, and removed and reinstalled iTunes so many times it ain’t funny!!!! I can’t even put the phone on recovery or DFU Mode! Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!

I really hope that I can help but since I am not able to simulate the problem, all I could do was to do some research in google.
From what I have read, it seems to suggest that restoring iPhone to a lower version may be the thing to get it working again at least. Maybe you can try it and let us know. The key thing is to try to force the iPhone into recovery mode with the steps described above.

Thank you very much for answering my cry for help. But, can you believe (recovery mode and all) that my iPhone 3g was actually stolen the next day! I tell you, I had to pay Apple a horrendous amount of money for an iPhone 3G S, because I wasn't eligible for an upgrade. If I would have replaced it with a 3G the where going to charge me $299 so I decided to pay $428 including their ridiculous $18 fee upgrade for a 3GS. But this time around I'll make sure I put some type of antitheft app or maybe even their mobileme should do it. It's better paying them $100 a year then the extra dough for a replacement. Or do you know of a better app to use instead? I heard about GadgeTrak is that any good?

I checked out GadgeTrak but found that the app can only be activated when it is opened in iPhone. I do not think any thief would be stupid enough to launch that program when they have stolen it. So in my opinion, it is not very effective. However, it is useful in the event that a "nice and honest person" picks it up and "knows" about this software and "launches" it. You get the point.

My phone often stays dark when I am on a call and take it away from my ear to, for example, tap in a number on automated customer service calls.
So, I just restored my 3G and was very upset to find that all of my apps, music, etc were not there, even after waiting 1 hour for it to back up.
The missing data is not on my computer.
Is there anyway that I can get that info back?

I have a problem with an 3GS
It looks like it's restoring successfully, but once the progress bar on the phone reaches 100%, it just sits there & does nothing. iTunes continues to sit there with a indeterminate progress bar saying 'Restoring'. When I eventually give up & switch the phone off, iTunes says 'error 9'
I've tried it in different USB ports, and on 3 different machines, with the same result.
Any ideea?

For one person, her solution was:
1) Choose to NOT sync content on the Music, Photos, Podcasts, and Video tabs. Click Apply.
2) The iPhone should sync to a mostly empty state
3) Click the Update button on the Summary tab
4) At the conclusion of the update, re-select content on the Music, Photos, Podcasts, and Video tabs. Click Sync.

If I can get back my backed up info and music I bought through my iPhone, then I'd get the 8G iphone...otherwise, what's the point??

in ITunes, hold the SHIFT key and click on restore, it will allow you to choose the firmware to restore.

the issue is her software Im sure. She cannot re-install itunes so her phone is back in recovery mode. :( IDK i told her to bring me the laptop so I could restore it for her.

Try this:
1. Use the same iPhone cable on another USB port if your laptop/PC have one.
2. If you have a friend with iPhone, borrow his or her cable to try it out.
3. Finally, if the above do not work, reinstall iTunes or do an upgrade of iTunes to latest version.

I can't restore my IPHONE 3G 8G is it STUCK IN APPLE LOGO i don't know what firmware i had on it..ITUNES it will recognize it just in DFU MODE i will tell you what i had tryed so far to fix this.

Hi Ahsan, Looks like you have disrupted the Cydia installation process and as such have corrupted the programs. I suggest you redo the jailbreaking. Having said that, I do not support jailbreaking in general.
Thank you so much, after several hours of researching and I tried what you mentioned, this worked for me! I have a 3GS iphone and I tried to restore to the 3.1.3 firmware because my phone frozed from also an existing 3.1.3. I kept receiving errors until I cut and paste the 3.1.3 firmware that I placed in the Iphone software update folder somewhere else like you said and then went to itunes and did a restore. Itunes then did all the work from here on. What I think was the problem was maybe I had another 3.1.3 firmware in the same area as where itunes was going to place its 3.1.3 firmware. Not sure... but when I removed it and left the iphone software update empty and restored the phone.... it works!

Have know somebody can cause error 9 by restore, if my iPhone 3G have faulty camera?
When restoring the iPhone, if you get through Preparing the iPhone stage until you get the message on the computer saying "Waiting for iPhone" - if this lasts for as long as you leave the iphone connected, and when you disconnect it Error 9 is produced - it seems to mean that there is a problem communicating with the main processor of the iPhone - although I lack the technical knowledge to explain this properly.
Anyway, you still have a good chance to get your iphone running again, I have had this problem on a 2g 8gb that froze up, so I force rebooted and it went straight to itunes screen - it took around 30 different restore attempts using different firmware versions to get it back restored. I also have it regularly on a 3g 16gb which loves crashing and then just showing the apple logo forever, and that takes well over 50 restore attempts before it will finally take a firmware - for example it last crashed overnight on Friday, and I got it restored finally yesterday afternoon.
What you need to do is set the iphone off restoring in iTunes (USE the DFU instructions above - DFU seems to work much better), if it says waiting for iphone still when the bar on the iphone gets beyond half way along put the iphone into DFU again (just grab it, hold top and home buttons till it shuts off. Release the buttons, then hold home and power buttons again for 10 seconds, release power button and wait for it to appear in iTunes). I don't know if it helps or not, but I tend to vary the firmware files I am using, if nothing else it makes the process a little less boring, download different firwares from here:-

Keep trying, if there is no bar on the iphone for the firmware you are using - then if it hasn't got beyond Waiting for iPhone after 5 minutes then it won't at all so start again.
I can't work out what makes it finally take, maybe all the reboots and putting in DFU mode, maybe it just does it when it feels like it. On my 3g 16gb I took the MOBO out to see if disconnecting the battery power would help, but it had no affect. So you are stuck with just keeping on trying to restore it, and hope that one time it will take the firmware. I can't guarantee it will work, but it's worth trying - and post back if you do get it running!

I was updating to iOS4 when my iphone 3G suddenly says it can't read my sim card and was locked. On my iTunes screen I was told I needed to insert a SIM card in order to continue with the installation of the iOS4.
I used my friend's SIM card and my iphone was able to detect it however my itunes would only allow me to restore my iphone which i did and now all my camera roll, notes, contacts and sms are gone and the backups in my iTunes are all post-iPhone-crash

Before you update your iPhone to OS4, there should be a sync done. If you have been syncing your phone regularly, the contacts should be stored in the MS Outlook's contact.

I never actually tried a different SIM but this is what I heard. If your new SIM card is tied to your iPhone contract, then you simply need to launch iTunes and connect the iPhone and then there will be a prompt to ask you whether you want to download service provider settings. That should activate your iPhone to work with the SIM card.
If you are getting a SIM that is not tied to iPhone contract, the only I know is to jailbreak the phone which I do not recommend by the way.

hello, i've just got a second hand iphone 2g 8gb, and it worked fine until i tried to upgrade it, and now it wont let me restore it and it wont let me past the emergency screen saying connect to itunes, but it wont let me any further.
i have tried a few things and even took it to shops, but it says i need the compatible simcard from the supported carrier or contact the supported carrier for a replacement, i dont know who it is, or where to get one :(.

Hi Susan, your problem may be a result of your iPhone storage space running out. It was the case with my iPhone. When I deleted some of my apps and songs, the photos came back.

I completed a Jailbreak with redsnow0.9.6b4 on my Iphone 3GS 16gb.. All went well until it crashed 2 days after completed jail break and after some time spent on the Cydia app. The jailbreak wasn't permanent if the phone was rebooted. I had to use redsnow to get the phone active again each time. Which worked okay.....
Until earlier today when it froze!! :( The phone would not go into DFU mode or respond. I looked around everywhere and couldnt get help until i read 'Iphone-downloads' and 'Julio Nemer' advice.
For errors 1604 (Itunes cant restore device) and freezing on apple logo or(pineapple logo for jailbreakers) all you need to do is navigate to -
Windows -
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates delete the iPhone Restore.ipsw - my iphone is on 4.2.1 so mines looks like - iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw in any case delete this.
Put phone into DFU mode (See google for instructions) if you're having problems with this keep rying eventually it will go into DFU mode.
Start Itunes 10 and connect cable. if you have a previous version of itunes upgrade to version 10.
You will get a message telling you that the Iphone is in DFU mode and requires a full restore click okay.
terms and conditions should appear. click ok. Now you should see Itunes downloading the latest firmware from scratch (not an update the full package) the most recent firmware is 4.2.1 around 90mb.
Once done the Itunes should start preparing the iphone for a fresh firmware install.
THIS MAY NOT HAPPEN ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS ENTER DFU MODE AGAIN AND IT WORKS 100%
Now you should definatley have an Apple icon with a status bar underneith. DONT WORRY IF THE BAR DOESN'T MOVE ALLOW 5 MINS.
Let the phone do the rest. As usual when the firmware is sorted it will back up your files once you confirm you want to do this.
The phone is now as new in working order!!!
If you still get error 1604 follow 'Julio Nemer' advice see previous comments.
A special shout out to 'Iphone-downloads' and 'Julio Nemer' these guys are nothing short of genius!!
PS anyone looking to jailbreak 4.2.1 although redsnow can do this it's unstable and only at the BETA stages. The best idea is to downgrade firmware to 4.0 and use a stable jailbreak. Any advice from experts on this issue will be appreciated.

I running FW 4.2.1 and needed to restore to fix some nagging problems. I followed the exact same steps I followed to do previous restores, which worked fine. This time I can restore as usual, but iTunes does not prompt me to choose between restoring a backup or setting up a new phone. I have tried this three other times and each is the same. No option to restore. The phone is the same, the firmware is the same and I know I have backups on file. The whole point of having a backup is to prevent important data from being lost, and just like that my entire content seems to be irretrievable.
Any idea how to force iTunes to prompt for restore vs new phone, or failing that, how to locate the backup files (windows 7) and manually reinstall?

i only got it few days ago, i tried to unlock it so that i can use it on any sim. so after i finished jailbreaking with redsnow, i clicked on cydia but it wasnt opening - i tried to open it 5-6 times but it only flahes and goes back to the main menu.

I have an iPhone 3Gs and it was working perfectly fine. Suddenly i look at the screen and it is telling me to restore to original settings. I really hope you can help me here. I've been trying to restore and fully update my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2.1. I finally managed to make iTunes not stop in the middle of the Restore operation (as was the case above) on my computer (Win 7 64-bit).
It goes through all of the automated steps, and then at the end, a pop-up says "iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (1015)". I checked online for a solution, but everyone online is trying to downgrade back to iOS 3.X.X. I'm hoping to fully upgrade my device.
I already downloaded the latest .ipsw file for updating to 4.2.1. Using Firefox, it automatically "opened" with iTunes, but I did not notice any difference other than it didn't stall in the Restore operation as it did before.

i have tried to this and it is not working for me it continues to go to the apple logo screen while in the process of downloading and installing update it never gets to install though it gives me an error that says there is sum thing wrong with the network settings and ends the process.
I've been unable to restore my iPhone on multiple occasions over the last year or so, each time occurring when I update my iTunes and/or update the iOS on my iPhone. (Honestly I think it's a problem with my PC.) Anyway, this time it stubbornly refused to restore an unheard of 5 times. I just kept restarting my PC and "resetting" my iphone and it finally was able to restore on the 6th try. So that would be my suggestion - keep trying. Especially if, like me, you wer told by Apple that you have to pay a fee to speak to someone. In the future, I will first check for updates to iTunes, complete the update completely and restart, then do the update to the iPhone.

After the heart attack and reading trouble shooting pages discovered the DFU mode, followed these steps but I am on an ever ending loop where I get the same error message. I have completly uninstalled the itunes twice and reinstalled it. shut down, rebooted, even tried doing it without my firewall on tried different usb ports on my laptop and nothing is working.
I took it back to my provider O2 and they got it to restore to factory settings but surely if I want to sync all my data back on I need it to work on my pc ( I did sync the iphone before I loaded the iso 4.2.1) So I am assuming all my data is there?....?
However itunes has the data I can see it I just cant get my iphone to see it.
Is there anyone who can help it seems to me there are a lot of us out there having the same problem all of our pc's can't be to blame can they.

CTRL+ALT+SUPR is for Mac Users. For Windows users, it is equivalent to CTRL+ALT+DEL to launch task manager.

Have synced to my sisters computer but it refuses to work on my pc laptop. I can't keep going to her everytime I need to sync or use itunes.
I fear to try anything else in case loose again. The annoying thing is last time I synced on her computer was 31.01.2011 so I have losted stuff or at least can't access from when this all started on my pc.

Hey I used the reset function inside my iPhone 3g to go back to factory settings and delete all of the contacts and such. It warned me that it would take about an hour twice. I went ahead and did it. First two bars filled up on the screen but then it went to the apple logo and the spinning wheel that means it's loading. The wheel isn't spinning though and every 15 minutes or so the screen flashes off, comes back on to the apple logo and the spinning wheel. Been that way for 5 hours now. Advice?
Ok guys, I just want to share my experience here upgrading my iPhone from iOS 4.0 to 4.3.1.
I was using Windows 7 and I did an upgrade from iTunes (version 10.2.1.1 - latest at the time of writing) and after all the processes are done I was shown an error (-1). After that, my iPhone goes into "limbo" and was in recovery mode. (Thank God I backed up my photos and contacts before that).
I went on to try to recover the iPhone with no positive result even after doing all those DFU/kill itunes stuff. However, different errors (34xx, etc) just kept poping up half way during restore. Finally I gave up and went home.
That night, I used my home laptop running on XP and tried again using the same iTunes version and did a restore. At first the recovery process seem to be running fine until towards the end when the progress just stopped. Then I noticed an alert from my ZoneAlarm firewall software that a certain process (I can't remember whether it is Bonjour or DifX or mobile something) is trying to access the internet. I guessed it was a process used by iTunes so allowed it go through and the recovery process was done and my phone was alive again even though I lost all data.
In conclusion, in my case, I am pretty sure that the reason I was not able to recover on my Widnows 7 station was also due to the firewall software running on it. And the reason the firewall did not prompt me was probably because I set it to always deny the process that iTunes need to access the internet. So all these happened in the background without my knowledge and I kept going around in circles.
So to all of you out there who have tried everything that is said on this hub to recover your iPhone without success, maybe you should try to disable your firewall software and try again.

I seem to have a problem with restoring my iPhone 4. It got water damage but after drying it the power worked ok but it seemed to default to recover mode and need to be restored. Upon connecting to iTunes (the newest version downloaded today) it asks to restore to factory settings, which I accept and it goes through the process of restoring, and it appears to do everything fine and at the end even a pop-up window says restoring is complete and the phone is being restarted. However when it restarts it still thinks it is in recovery mode and effectively nothing has happened. Can you offer any advice as to what is going on here? Thanks.

I had similar problems trying to restore my iPhone 3GS but the process keeps going around in circles. The problem lied with my firewall application Zonealarm which prevent some processes needed by iTunes to access the web. When I disabled the firewall software on my laptop, I was then able to restore it without issue. Maybe you can do the same if you are running any firewall application.

I had to replace the hard drive on my MacBook and since then iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone unless it's in DFU mode. So, it looks like I have to restore to factory settings to get iTunes to find it. Problem is, I don't want to lose all my pics, music and contacts. I didn't have my hard drive backed up so there is no existing iPhone backup. Is there any way I can get it backed up/ synced?

i need some help! my iphone, when i click restore, starts to restore and all till the end. but in the end it says error 1015. do you know how to fix this problem? you would be a savior! thanks!
i already tried restoring it in another computer, restarting the computer, and updating itunes. but the same thing happends. :| please help!
my iphone four is two months old. since i first started using it there has been problems with syncing it. usually it gets to the end and says an 'unknown error' has occurred and usually i have to try lots of times before it MIGHT finally work. last night when i was trying to do this exact same thing it wouldnt work! again it said the unknown error! i also tried downloading and upgrading the new software and once again it downloaded right to the end until it said that the same error had occurred and that it hadnt worked!
this morning i tried again to download it and instal it again, but this time it got all the way to the end of the download and froze! its been like it all day! just before i've removed my iphone and plugged it back in where i have now been told to restore it. BUT IT WONT RESTORE! i've tried multiples times and each time it starts and freezes! the restore says that its finished on my computer, but on my phone it says that its only just started and doesnt move from this!
i dont no what to do please help me!

If I were not a Catholic, I would probably proclaim you my god on the spot and profess my complete devotion to you...but at least let me thank you sincerely: I have just spent the ENTIRE night trying to reverse my way too careless attempt at downgrading my iphone 3gs from 4.3.2 to 4.0.1 in order to later jailbreak it. I forgot, however, that BEFORE I do such a thing I should probably get ENOUGH information about this subject. Long story short, downgrading attempt have failed miserably and I had to go back to my 4.3.2, but my iphone kept rejecting the backup file. I thought that I have lost not only many hours of sleep, but also all my data, but you've saved my day. Thank you so much once again.

My Iphone won't charge with the USB cord I bought. It's been working just fine for three months, now suddenly it is saying the accessory isn't able to be used to charge the Iphone. Hi my iphone 3g died and when I put it to charge on my laptop it went to that little thing that says its connected to itunes but then I took it out and put it to charge on the wall and it's stuck in the same little picture as before. I can turn it off but as soon as I plug it to charge again or turn it on it goes to the same picture that says that it's connected to itunes. i jailbreaked my iphone 4. i wanted to update to the latest version of iOS. after reading up on the net, i followed steps posted to do so. it said i needed to first restore (to remove the jailbreak) then upgrade, then re-jailbreak. itunes seemed to be almost there when it said "itunes is unable to restore the iphone". it is now stuck in "restore" state. i-tunes now finds the phone, but it has no capacity, software version, or serial number. if i try to restore, it shows the progress bar on the phone so i am confident it is not bricked. any advice? i am a little worried!

When going to preferences, devices.. i see my restore file listed (with a padlock for encryption). ANYway so i plug my phone in and right click on it to restore from backup and the file/s i want to use does not even come up as an option?!?!

I have an Iphone 4. I have the following baseband : 04.10.01. And a Jailbroken Iphone 4.
Yesterday, I've tried to move from 4.3.2 to 4.3.3.
First, I've made a backup with ITunes.
Then, Ive got the IPSW of the 4.3.3.
Then, as explained in a tutorial, I've moved to DFU mode in order to install 4.3.3.
As I found it impossible to get out of the DFU mode (I've tried TinyUmbrella, IReb, ...), I've decided to upgrade to 4.3.5 (bye bye untethered jailbreak).
After 4.3.5 installation, iTunes proposes me to restore from backup. When I choose my backup in the list and click on "Next", after a few seconds, I get an error message from iTunes : iTunes has not been able to restore the xxxx iPhone because the backup doesn't exist anymore (sorry, I got the message in french and tried to translate it so it may be not the exact error message). When I go to the "Documents and Settings\....\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" folder, I have a "56dd772a21928e926248f164627b6b287fae00b3" folder and in this folder, I have some files whose date and time match the date and time of my backup. I've been to the "Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs" folder and opened "asl.131341_13Aug11.log" file. Here is an extract of what I get at the end of the file :

I've not touched the Hosts file at any moment during the upgrade to 4.3.3 or 4.3.5 (unless TinyUmbrella does it itself). Is it the reason why I have this issue ?
Do I have to try to get back to 4.3.2 and then try to restore back ? If yes, how do I have to do ?
Should I try to use another computer ?

This may help someone having problems restoring the Iphone 3GS.. A few days ago I wanted to sync my Iphone with new songs.. I got a message to update my Itunes and few minutes later, I got an other message asking me to upgrade my Iphone software to which I said yes.. Big mistake.. the phone froze, nothing to be done.. i unpluged it from Itunes and try onces more to plug it in, I got a message saying now I had to restore my phone and lose all the data.. after a few hours into the process of restoring and Iphone was just frozen after many attempts to restore.. I turned off my antivirus, firewall, red/l Itunes, after that it took 6 minutes to restore.. perhaps someone could benefits from my mistake.
Mine is always in the restoring process and proceeds fine but at what looks lik e75% It comes up with error and the restoring stops and then the screen telling me I have to restore it before it can recovers pops up and I've been through this process about 19 times today, it's frustrating! >_

after clicking restore on my jailbroken phone, itunes downloaded the update and it's been stuck at the recovery mode since then. I tried your method but there isnt a pop up in iTunes saying that iPhone is in recovery mode. Help ?

I tried to uninstall winterboard and my phone blocked...then I put it on safe mode and it worked...I closed it and opened it again and then I tried to restore it and it worked...but first uninstall winterboard.... . =P And now it works perfect and it's not jailbroken anymore. =3

i brought an iphone from america i now live back in the Ivory Coast. Yesterday i was just trying to restore my iphone. Everything went quite ok until a point it says "There is no sim card installed in the iphone you're attempting to activate. I have a problem with getting my phone to do a complete content erase and start over. I have an issue figuring out what the "restriction passcode" is. I have never set one, nor have any idea what it is and neither does the Sprint tech store or the Apple store. They suggested trying to passcode to unlock the phone to access anything. I'm to the point if I try anything I have to wait an hour before I am able to enter another four digit passcode. Help?
I should note that this was for a simple number change and that I need to go back to factory settings to have the number attached to the service on the phone. I can access apps and web/wifi but I can't call or text because there isn't any service attached to my iPhone 4. I'm getting really frustrated that nobody seems to know what's going on even though it's their job! :/

Hey I used the reset function inside my iPhone 3g to go back to factory settings and delete all of the contacts and such. It warned me that it would take about an hour twice. I went ahead and did it. First two bars filled up on the screen but then it went to the apple logo and the spinning wheel that means it's loading. The wheel isn't spinning though and every 15 minutes or so the screen flashes off, comes back on to the apple logo and the spinning wheel. Been that way for 5 hours now. Advice?

I have an iphone 3gs (jailbroken) and I am currently trying to reset it, to give to someone else.
I went into settings on the phone and clicked reset, so it was doing all that, then the apple stayed on my homescreen.
Ive been googling for hours, holding on/off button with home button, I get the connect to itunes, so I do that and then it gives me the option to restore, then it says extracting files and so on.
Then an error 1611 comes up not allowing the restore.
So confused.

I jailbreaked my iphone 4 tethered.. as ios 5.1 has tethered version.. now i want to restore it but it is showing error 21.. then it is not restoring in recovery mode also.. please help..
